BELTON ISD WEATHER GUIDELINES

Weather Guidelines

All coaches will have access to the Perry Weather App and should use it in accordance with Belton ISD weather guidelines when determining practice and game conditions.During practices that athletic trainers present, athletic trainers will monitor the lightning situation with the Perry Weather app or ThorGuard (if applicable). If athletic trainers are not present, it is the coaches responsibility to monitor the weather. The Perry Weather app is set to lightning strikes within a 10 mile radius of location, and will notify the coach when conditions are clear and there have been no lightning strikes within a 10 mile location within 30 minutes.

In this part of central Texas, excessive heat, high heat index readings, and high humidity are inevitable. Education, monitoring and prevention are keys to a safer environment for our outdoor athletes. During the summer, early fall, and late spring it is important that coaches are aware of the dangers and try to attempt to prevent heat illness. Continuous monitoring of heat and humidity are taken by the athletic trainers before and after most activities. All coaches must complete the UIL training on heat stroke, heat illness, and dehydration each year. In addition, Belton ISD has the following weather guidelines.

If school is canceled due to weather, no extracurricular activities are allowed (practices or games). If school is delayed, practices and games may take place in the evening.
