The Belton Tigers Junior Varsity (JV) basketball team navigated a competitive field in the recent Belton ISD basketball tournament, finishing with a 1-2 record but displaying significant effort and potential for the season ahead. The Tigers opened the tournament with a dominant start against the Elgin Wildcats, securing an impressive 42-24 victory. This win was largely a result of great team defense, which created numerous opportunities for transition scoring. Hunter Hurst led the charge in that opening game, leading all scorers with 14 points and setting a positive tone for the weekend.
Following their strong start, the Tigers faced tough challenges in their subsequent matchups. In their second game, Belton battled hard but ultimately fell to Midway with a final score of 49-57, despite Taj Keeler's team-leading 17 points. The final game of the tournament saw the Tigers lose to Lake Belton 51-79, with Alexander Deshazer pacing the team in scoring with 15 points. Although the results were mixed, a defensive standout throughout the tournament was Parker Munz, whose consistent play anchored the Tigers' defense.
Ultimately, the tournament provided valuable experience for the young Belton squad. Despite the losses, the team displayed great effort. The Tigers are taking the lessons learned on the court to heart and are excited to improve as they look forward to putting together a great season.
