The Belton Tigers Freshman Red football team put on a display of pure grit and resilience on the road, overcoming a tough start to claim a hard-fought 28-12 victory over the Waco Lions. The Tigers stumbled out of the gate, battling through multiple early turnovers that halted their offensive momentum in the first half. However, the Belton defense "bowed their necks" and held their ground when their backs were against the wall, limiting Waco to just six points before halftime and keeping the Tigers firmly in striking distance.
The contest proved to be a grueling test of character as Belton entered the second half down 0-6, which quickly turned into a 0-12 deficit following another turnover. Unfazed by the mounting adversity, the Tigers' engine finally roared to life late in the third quarter. Apollo Palomares and Akai Cook ignited the comeback with an electric drive, capped off by a spectacular 43-yard touchdown pass from Palomares to Cook to get Belton on the board and breathe new life into the sideline.
With the offense finding its rhythm, the Tigers' defensive line stepped up with a massive stop, handing the ball back to the offense at the start of the fourth quarter. Tight end Hudson Foxx set the tone by smashing into Waco defenders, clearing massive lanes that allowed Isaiah Harris to burst clean into the end zone and give Belton a 14-12 lead. Shortly after, defensive back Jabari Richardson came up with a clutch interception, setting up another touchdown run by Harris to extend the Tigers' advantage to 20-12.
To put the finishing touches on an unforgettable comeback, Cooper Chambley sealed the victory with just a few minutes remaining on the clock. Reading the Waco quarterback on the three-yard line, Chambley picked off the pass and launched a breathtaking 97-yard pick-six return, followed by a successful 2-point conversion punched in by Jayden Clements to put the game completely out of reach at 28-12. Showing true fight, determination, and relentless effort, the Freshman Red squad proved they can overcome any obstacle to bring home a monumental district win.
