The Belton Tigers Freshman Red football team fought through a thrilling, hard-hitting district battle against the Ellison Eagles, ultimately ending in a 20-20 tie. The Tigers stormed out of the gates with relentless energy, using hard, physical runs from Isaiah Harris to set the tone and drive deep into Eagles territory early. Capsizing that momentum from the 23-yard line, quarterback Apollo Palomares dropped back and fired a strike downfield to Jayden Clements, who hauled in a deep post route for the game's opening touchdown to put Belton up 6-0.
Following a quick defensive stand, the Tigers picked up right where they left off, marching straight back down the field with precision execution. From 32 yards out, Palomares delivered a picture-perfect ball to Ethan Bass in the end zone for Belton's second score of the night, while kicker Collin Wilkes drilled the extra point through the uprights to stretch the lead to 13-0. Ellison answered with a quick touchdown of their own to cut the gap to 13-6, but the Tigers responded immediately. Driven by strong playmaking from Palomares and Akai Cook, Apollo read the defensive end on a zone read, pulled the ball down, and toted it into the end zone himself to push Belton ahead 20-6 before Ellison added a late score to send the teams into halftime at 20-14.
While the offense set the pace early, the defense provided a stout backbone for Belton throughout the contest. Outside linebacker Jayden Clements turned in a stellar performance, consistently making open-field tackles and shutting down edge plays. In the trenches, Jeffery McFadden held down the middle of the defensive line with authority, controlling the nose and racking up tackles to stifle Ellison's inside run game. Secondary play was equally sharp, as both Ethan Bass and Cooper Chambley stepped up to snag an interception apiece over the course of the night to halt Ellison drives.
The second half proved to be a grueling, possession-by-possession struggle as both teams traded blows in pursuit of the win. Late in the contest, Ellison managed to put together a long, methodical drive that resulted in a touchdown, knotting the scoreboard at 20-20. Despite a final push from both sides, neither team could break the deadlock before the final whistle blew. While leaving with a tie is always a bitter pill to swallow, the Freshman Red Tigers showed outstanding playmaking, defensive toughness, and heart against a competitive opponent.
