This past weekend the Varsity softball team traveled around Central Texas to compete in the Turf Wars Tournament.
On Thursday the Tigers opened the tournament against Rains but fell short losing 9-1. Lucy Liu Gaines Lucas took the mound for the tigers and threw for only 2 earned runs and 3 strikeouts over 4.3 innings. After two home runs Miley Davila took the mound and had 6 earned runs and 1 strikeout. Hailey-Jane Holder and Jacklyn Munoz both batted 1000 on the game going 2 for 2 each and helping score the one run for the Tigers.
The Tigers came back Thursday night and beat Glenn 11-7. Lole Reyes led the team going 3 for 4 at the plate with a single, double, and home run. Hailey Schutz, Ramsey Evans Curran, and Andalyn Logan all went 2 for 4 on the night adding to the Tiger offense. Reagan Stuart helped lead the defense on the mound with 6 strikeouts in 6 innings.
Friday the Tigers opened against Leander and lost 9-1. Reagan Stuart had a solo home run to get the Tigers on the board. Unfortunately the Tigers fell short and could not get their hits strung together to score runs.
The Tigers then beat Harker Heights Friday afternoon 4-3. Iris Molina led the offense going 3 for 3 with 2 doubles and a single as well as 2 RBI's. Hailey Schutz and Andalyn Logan also went 2 for 3 for the game. Miley Davila was on the mound for the Tigers with 2 earned runs and 3 strikeouts.
On day 3 the Tigers opened against St. Agnes in the afternoon with a tough loss 11-0. Lucy Liu Gaines Lucas and Reagan Stuart both threw for the Tigers with only 4 earned runs. This was a tough game defensively for the Tigers but big corrections were made going into the last game of the tournament.
The Tigers suffered a tough loss 7-5 against Georgetown high school ending due to time expiring. The Tigers came out with a new found energy and enthusiasm in the game. Lucy Liu Gaines Lucas led the tigers going 3 for 3 with a single and 2 doubles. Hailey Schutz and Ramsey Evans Curran also had a great offensive night going 2 for 3. Reagan Stuart and Lucy Liu Gaines Lucas both threw 3 innings in the game and only had 5 earned runs.
Altogether this was a great and challenging weekend for the Tigers facing lots of tough competition. Come check out the Tigers at Killeen High School on Tuesday March 5th at 6:30 pm.
