Wall of Honor Inductees 1950 – 1959
Benny Bloomer – Football – 1952
Bloomer was named to the 2-A Sportswriters All-State Team in 1952, was voted the Districts Top Lineman & to the All-Central Texas Football Team.
He was District Champion in shot put 3 straight years & was the District Champion in Discuss as a Sr.
After high school he played at Texas A&M his freshman year, then went on to play at Texas A&I in 1955.
Benny Bloomer was a High School football coach for 34 years with a career record of 179-138-14, he won 1 State Championship in 1975 at La Grange.

Earl Wayne Miller – Football – 1953
Miller was an All-State End for Belton in 1953, he went on the play at Baylor where he was a 2 year starter at 6’2? & 185lbs.
Miller was named to the All-SWC team as a Sr at Baylor in 1957 & was the leading receiver on the team. His 1956 Baylor team was 9-2 & ranked 11th in the Nation.
Miller was Honorable Mention All-American in 1957. He was selected in the 12th round of the NFL draft by Green Bay.

Bobby Cline – Track – 1955
Cline was a State Champion in the Shot Put in 1955 with a throw of 54’1?. In the Regional meet in 1956, he had his Personal best throw of 55’4?. He won the Shot Put at the Texas Relays in 1956 with a throw of 55' (3rd best throw in meet history). Cline was a 3-time District Champion in Shot Put.
Cline also played football, he was a 246 lb tackle for the Tigers who went 7-3 in 1955. He was recruited by several SWC schools for football, eventually going to Texas Tech where he played tackle.

Jarrell Hayes – Football – 1957
Hayes was the QB for Texas A&I’s National Champion NAIA team in 1959. Hayes threw 3 TD passes in A&I’s 20-7 win over Lenoir Rhyne to win the NAIA Championship.
Hayes was Voted All Lone Star Conference & 2nd Team Texas All-College QB in 1961. He was inducted into the Texas A&M Hall of Fame.
Hayes was a 3 sport star at Belton. He was an All-District QB & Linebacker in 1957, was the 6th man on Belton’s 1958 State Basketball Championship Team & was the leading hitter on the Tiger Baseball team in 1958.
Hayes went on to become a successful “Texas Oilman” in Houston, heading up several companies.

Charlie Williams – Football – 1957
Williams was named 1st Team Guard on the 2-A All-State Football Team selected by the Waco Times Herald, he was also named to the Super Centex Team. Williams started at Guard despite being “undersized” at 5’10” & 168 lbs. Williams recorded 26 tackles in one game during his high school career. He was the Co-Captain for Belton’s 1957 team that went 10-1.
He played his college football at Texas A&I where he started his Jr and Sr year, despite only weighing 185 lbs. The Dallas Morning News named the 185 lb Sr Guard to its All-Texas College 1st Team in 1962. Williams was a member of the National Champion Texas A&I team in 1959 and won 2 other Lone Star Championships while at Texas A&I.
Williams later earned a Law Degree from Vanderbilt University and was an attorney in San Antonio until his death in 1990 at the age of 50.

Billy Wilbanks – Basketball – 1958
Wilbanks led Belton to the 1958 2-A State Basketball Championship. He was 2nd Team All-State & named unanimous All -State Tournament in 1958. Wilbanks scored 21.6 ppg in 1958 & 20.9 ppg in 1957. He started in the Coaches’ All-Star Game & Texas vs Oklahoma Game.
Wilbanks went on to play at Texas Tech & Abilene Christian University.
Was Belton’s Valedictorian in 1958: 4th of 350 in college class Ph.D. in Criminal Justice; College Professer for 33 years & Author of 15 books on criminology.
Created websites on history of the state basketball tournament & state track meet. Wilbanks created and built the Belton Athletic Wall of Honor. He was inducted into the Texas High School Basketball Hall of Fame in 2012.

Bernard Bartek – Football – 1958
Bartek was named All-State Tackle as a Sr in 1958 & made All-SWC at TCU in 1962. He was a 4 sport Letterman at Belton. Bartek was the top pitcher and one of the leading hitters for the Tiger Baseball Team.
Bartek was a 3-year starter on the Tiger Basketball team & a starter on the 1958 State Champion team at Guard.
After high school he played football at TCU, he was a starting lb as a Jr on the 1961 Frog team that upset #2 Kansas & #1 Texas. In the Texas upset, he blocked a FG and made the game saving tackle on the 2 yd line to preserve the TCU upset. He went on to be an accountant in the Ft Worth area.

Richard Inman – Football / Track / Basketball – 1958-1960
Inman earned all-state honors in 3 sports in back-to-back years as a Belton Tiger. In football he was an All-State end as a Jr & Sr, he also received all-american honors as a Sr.
He earned all-state recognition in basketball as a Jr and Sr. Inman’s Soph season he received all-state tournament honors. He was the 2nd leading scorer on Belton’s 1958 State Championship team.
Inman was the state champion in shot & discus as a Sr in 1960. He set the state record at 62’8?, he was also the H.S. National Champion at 62’11”.
After High School, Inman went on to be a member of Oklahoma’s football team and their track & field team. He played end at Oklahoma & was named most Outstanding Freshman. Inman started as a Soph but was injured his Jr & Sr seasons. He was the Big Eight shot put champ as a Soph & Sr, he was also named All-American with a college best throw of 61’11”.
