Wall of Honor Inductees 1960-1969
Dale West – Basketball -1960
West was named All-State as a Sr in 1960, he was the leading rebounder & the 3rd leading scorer as a Soph on the 1958 State Championship Team. In the State Final he had 10 points & 17 rebounds.
As a Jr, West broke the school record for points in a game with 36 points. The Tigers went 29-4 West’s Jr year.
As a Sr West averaged 15.7 pts a game & the Tigers went 35-6 reaching the State Tournament. West was also named to the All-Tournament Team. He was named Super-Centex by the Waco Times Herald & participated in the High School All Star Game.
Dale signed with the University of Texas, he was the 2nd leading scorer & leading rebounder on the UT Freshman Basketball team, he also hit .300 for the UT Freshman Baseball Team.

Randy Winkler – Football – 1960
This “late bloomer” was only 2nd team All-District as a 6’1? 210 lb tackle as a Sr in 1960. But he made it to the top of his sport, reaching the NFL.
Winkler grew to 6’4? 240lbs at Tarleton State, where he was twice named Texas All-College at Tight End and LB. He was selected in the 12th round of the NFL Draft and played OL for Detroit (1967), Atlanta (1968) & Green Bay (1971).
Winkler was later named to the Tarleton State Hall of Fame.

Bill Ward – Basketball – 1961
Ward was named 1st Team All-State in 1961 by the Texas Sportswriters. The 6’5? guard, averaged 18 ppg in 1961, he also played in the High School All-Star game. Ward was also a member on the District Champion Mile Relay team.
He was recruited by all of the SWC schools, Ward started 3 years at SMU. Ward led the 1965 SMU Mustangs to the NCAA playoffs, where he scored 26 pts and had 10 rebounds. He was named a co-captain & top Sr athlete at SMU, he was also 2nd team All-SWC.

Richard Stark – Football – 1961
Stark was named 1st Team All-State & 1st Team Blue Chip Back by Tx Football & Wigwam All-American. The 5’11” 170lb Sr rushed for 1005 yds (7.4 a carry) as a Sr in 1961.
He was the District Champion in the 440 yd & mile relay, was 2nd in District in the 100 yd & 220 yd dash.
Stark went on to play football at SMU, where he started as a soph and was named top defensive back as a Jr. He was also the President of the SMU freshman class.

Ken Law – Football – 1965
Ken Law was a 3-year starter for the Tigers at Center, he was 3rd team All-State in 1965, All-District as a Jr & Sr & made the All-Centex Team as a Senior.
Bob Sewell – Basketball – 1966
Sewell was named 3rd Team 3-A All-State in 1966 asa 5’9? Sr Guard. He was the leading scorer (16.8 ppg) & top “playmaker” for the 19-9 Tigers who won the North Zone Championship.
He also won medalist honors as a golfer at District as a Junior & Senior, just missing a spot in the State Tournament.

Robert Evans – Football – 1966
Evans was named 3rd Team 3-A All-State as a 5’10” 168 lb Sr in 1966. He was Belton’s first African-American All-State athlete, as Harris High School had closed in 1965. Evans was the Tigers leading receiver in 1966 with 495 yds & a remarkable 23.5 yards per catch average. He was also named All-District, All Cen-tex & All-State by Texas Sportswriters.
Evans went on to play defensive back at The University of Texas Arlington where he started as Jr & Sr. He still holds the school record with 4 interceptions in one game. He was named Honorable Mention All-Southland Conference.

Tommy Grant – Basketball – 1967
Grant was named 3rd Team 3-A All-State by Texas Sportswriters. The 6’1? Sr guard averaged 24.1 ppg as a Sr in 1967 (still the Belton Record). He also scored 44 points in one game (still a Tiger Record in 2009).
Grant was Ambidextrous so he was nicknamed “Two-Gun Tommy” & specialized in long range shots in era before the 3 point line. Was a career 87? from the free throw line.

Tommy Lee – Football – 1967
Lee was named 2nd Team All-State in 1967, he was also named to the All-District Team and All Cen-Tex team. He was a 6’2? 210 lb linebacker for the Tigers.
He was recruited by all of the SWC as a 6’3? 214 lb linebacker. Lee went on to play football for Darrell Royal and The University of Texas. He was a 3 year starter at linebacker at Texas & started on Royal’s 1970 National Championship Team. As a Sr, he helped the Longhorns to a 10-1 recored, they finished ranked #3 in the Nation.

Robert Ford – Football – 1968
Ford was named All-Centex & All-District as a 5’6? 160 lb running back in 1968. He was Belton’s leading rusher as a Soph, Jr & Sr. He also played in the High School All-Star Game.
Ford was a 3 year starter at The University of Houston, he was the leading receiver and returner on the team all 3 years. He still holds the NCAA record as the only player to catch two 99 yard TD passes during his career.
Ford went into coaching after college. He coached in High School, College & the NFL. During his career coaching in the NFL, Ford coached in 3 superbowls.

Rex Reid – Football – 1969
Reid was named 1st Team 3-A All-State in 1969, he also earned All-District & All-Centex honors in 1968 as a member of the Tiger Football team that went 9-2.
The 5’8? 190 lb Sr guard was named All-District, Centex Player of the Year & 1st Team All-State by Texas Coaches (on Belton’s best team ever) the 1969 team that was 10-2-1 & made the State Semi-Finals.
Reid also won a National Championship in AAU Powerlifting.
Charlie Griggs – Football – 1969
Griggs was named 1st Team 3-A All-State Offensive Guard in 1969, he was also All Centex as a Jr on the 1968 Tiger team that went 9-2.
The 5’8? 190 lb offensive guard was a Sr on (Belton’s best ever team) the 10-2-1 team of 1969 that made it to the State Semi-Finals.
1969 – Charlie Griggs Full Write Up
David Bartek – Football & Track – 1969 & 1970
Bartek was a 1st Team All-State Selection on both offense and defense in 1969 & 1970. In 1969 he led the 10-2-1 Tiger team to the State Semi-Finals. He rushed for 3,253 yards in his career.
Bartek was also the State runner-up in the shot with a throw of 60’5?. He played Full-Back & Linebacker at The University of Texas.
