Friday the Tiger Powerlifting took action and competed in the 2nd Annual BISD Invitational. We had 15-plus athletes compete and wear the red and white proudly.
Freshman Corbin Wittman competed in the 114 weight class and as a freshman, this was his first meet and he set marks that he did not know he could achieve. Corbin finished 3rd behind two great lifters from Lake Belton High School. The final totals for Wittmann were 565 pounds on his three lifts.
Junior Devon Sander competed in the 148 and was able to push the other lifters throughout the night. His 950-pound total was enough to secure the bronze medal. We are proud of what Devon is bringing this year and look forward to big things this season.
In the 165-pound weight class, we had several lifters compete, but Logan Ricks was the shining lifter. Throughout the lifts, Logan and another lifter went back and forth, and in the end, Logan's 1095-pound total was enough to secure the gold medal. Talking to Logan after the meet he was excited about the season and is looking forward to adding to that total.
Our last medal winner was Kevin Alafa in the 181 weight class. Kevin is a senior who has worked hard for the last few years and is coming into his own. Kevin's 1195 total was 50 pounds greater than the next competitor.
This year the BISD Invitational had 14 teams competing and the Tigers were able to walk out with a third-place finish improving from last year. We are looking forward to seeing the Tigers do great things in the weight room this year.
Next Wednesday the Tigers will be traveling to Temple High School to show off the gains that are being made.
