The Tigers JV White traveled to Lake Belton to take on the host in the opening round of sub varsity tournament.
Things started quickly with the Tigers threatening early and often in the first 10 minutes. Scrambling to keep the Tigers out of their zone, the Broncos countered with a few kicks down the field to manufacture a few chances of their own.
Both teams battled hard at the midfield, with neither team gaining a control of the ball. However, with 23 minutes remaining in the 1st half, the Tigers forced a turnover in the offensive zone.
After a few pinball passes, the Tiger's midfield found Larry Torres in the middle of the box with enough space to bury the first goal of the season; 1-0 Tigers
The lead would be short lived, however, as the Broncos would respond on the counter to catch the backline outnumbered; 1-1.
Coming out of halftime, both teams played a fairly even 30 minutes, with heavy offensive flurries and well timed counters.
The Tigers had one last gasp of breath, with 10 minutes remaining in the game. A cross into the box found several Tigers with space, but after a mad scramble by the Broncos defense, the Tigers were denied a decisive goal.
The Tigers begin the season with a draw against The Broncos; 1-1.
Belton is back in action tomorrow with a double header against Temple HS (11:00 AM) followed by Salado (2:00 PM).
