JV softball started the year with a good three inning scrimmage against Copperas Cove on Saturday. Hanna Wheeler and Brooke Matamoros pitched. Wheeler pitched well giving up 2 unearned runs on no hits with a couple of walks and 3 strikeouts. The team scratched a run against Cove's first pitcher. However, in the third inning, against their second pitcher, the team cranked out 5 runs to tie the game with help from a double by Jasmine Ruyle and a triple by Wheeler. Jocelyn Long and Matamoros also added hits. Ruyle and Aubrey Lynch each scored 2 runs while Wheeler and Natalie Fernandez each scored as well. The team had some good defensive plays and plate appearances, but definitely saw places to work on in practice. It was a great start to what promises to be a strong season for the JV Tigers.
