The JV Tigers’ Softball played in the Copperas Cove Tournament. They finished 3-1 and played really well all weekend.
Thursday’s first game was 15-3 win against Lampasas. Hanna Wheeler pitched well giving up 2 hits, 3 walks, 6 strikeouts and no earned runs. Aubrey Lynch had the only hit for the Tigers to go with 19 walks and 4 stolen bases as a team.
In game 2 of the day, the Tigers defeated Temple 11-2. Jocelyn Long had a double and Hanna Wheeler had a triple. The team overall had 7 hits, 7 walks, and 6 stolen bases. Brooke Matamoros and Gabbi Heltness pitched for the Tigers and threw combined for 2 hits, 3 walks, and 6 strikeouts.
Saturday, the Tigers lost a close one to Brentwood 7-5. The Tigers were winning 5-4 with a minute left to play but could not hang on to the win in the final inning. Brooke Matamoros struggled in the first inning but pitched well the rest of the game. The team had 7 hits, 2 walks, with 2 doubles each for Emma Lusty and Hanna Wheeler.
The team finished the day with a strong 14-0 win against the host team Copperas Cove. The Tigers had 13 hits and four walks, including two doubles each from Brooke Matamoros and Hanna Wheeler. Wheeler pitched a great game allowing a hit and a walk while getting two strikeouts.
The Tigers play their first district game against Lake Belton on Tuesday at 5 pm.
