Flying high after finishing 3 & 1 in their previous tournament, the JV WHITE Tigers were humbled & brought backdown to earth by finishing 2 & 3 in the Georgetown JV2/9th Tournament. To say the least, the Tigers did not play to the best of their ability. They committed a whopping 23 errors, were shutout 3 times & only amassed 21 hits in their 5 games during this rollercoaster of a weekend. Somehow, they managed to win 2 games including a nail-biting, 9 inning affair over host Georgetown.


Game 1: Patriots Pillage Tigers, 8 - 0

When the JV WHITE fell behind early to East View, the Patriots never looked back as they cruised to an 8-0 victory over the Tigers to open tournament play.

Habtamu Childers was the tough-luck starter on the mound for the Tigers. He did not receive the offensive or defensive support needed to control the Patriots’ onslaught.

The Tigers committed 5 errors in defensive support of Childers. Offensively, it was not much better with only 2 Tiger hits. Robert Lincycomb pitched the last inning in relief.

Game 2: Tigers Pluck Eagles in 9th, 4 - 3

After a lackluster performance in Game 1, the JV WHITE Tigers managed to regroup & score a run in the top of the 9th inning to shock & defeat the host, Georgetown Eagles, 4-3.

Both teams battled to a 3-3 tie for the first 4 innings. Over the next 4 innings, the Tigers & Eagles were waiting for the other to make a mistake while locked into a stalemate with neither team able to gain the upper hand.

In the top of the 9th, things got interesting as the JV WHITE was able to break through & capitalize on an Eagle miscue. A sacrifice bunt by Jay Morales advanced baserunner, Gavin Ross, to 2nd base. Ross aggressively continued to 3rd base as the Georgetown defense left 3rd base uncovered. Then with 2-outs, Robert Lincycomb laced a line drive off the outstretched glove of the shortstop to single in Ross with the eventual game-winning run.

Tigers’ starting pitcher, Brayden Barrera, was stellar on the mound pitching all 9 innings thus keeping his teammates in the game. After giving up 1 earned run in the 1st inning, Barrera was able to keep the Eagles in check by inducing 14 fly ball outs, striking out 4 & scattering 5 hits; he was unphased by the 3 errors behind him. He ended the bottom of the 9th in 1-2-3 fashion to secure the victory & finished just under his allotted max pitch count.

The Tigers out hit the Eagles, 9 to 5. Habtamu Childers, Gavin Warne & Gavin Ross each had 2 hits.

Game 3: Panthers Pulverize Tigers, 10 - 0

The 4 errors that led to 6 Midway runs in the 1st inning proved too much for the JV WHITE Tigers to overcome as they were defeated by the Panthers, 10-0. To make matters worse, the Tigers committed 2 more errors, & only having 2 offensive hits didn’t help either. Damin Russ pitched for the Tigers.

Game 4: Dragons Slay Tigers, 10 - 0

After a lackluster performance in Game 3, the JV WHITE hoped to rebound against Round Rock. Unfortunately for the Tigers, their bad luck & misfortune continued as the Dragons were victorious, 10-0. The Tigers had 1 hit & only committed 1 error, but they had a difficult time on the mound finding the plate.

Landon Owens was the starting pitcher, & Gavin Warne pitched an inning in relief.

Game 5: Tigers Stripe Stony Point, 11 - 8

After 4 up & down games the first 2 days in Georgetown, the JV WHITE Tigers hoped to finish on a high note on the tournament’s final day. The Tigers scored early & often but had to hold on late as they defeated the Stony Point Tigers, 11-8.

The JV WHITE scored in every inning but the 2nd by capitalizing on 11 walks, collecting 7 hits & hitting 3 sacrifice flys. Robert Lincycomb had 2 hits. Jaxon Simmons & Ruben Vriseno each hit a triple.

Defensively, the JV WHITE was not too good committing 8 errors.

Starting pitcher, Jaxon Simmons, pitched well & was unphased by the miscues behind him. He gave up 1 earned run, struck out 6 & allowed 5 hits. Jay Morales pitched 3 pitches for final out & save.
