The Tigers’ Softball helped host part of the BISD JV Tournament. They played China Springs, Harker Heights, and Austin Hyde Park.
The team defeated China Springs 11-2 in game one. Brooke Matamoros threw a strong four innings giving up 2 runs, striking out 8 and walking one. The team had 4 hits, 2 by Hanna Wheeler, 7 walks, and 7 batters were hit by a pitch. Aubrey Lynch had 4 of the team’s 6 stolen bases.
In the second game, the Tigers fought hard against good pitching from Harker Heights but ended up losing 4-1. The team had 3 hits and a stolen base. Brooke Matamoros scored the team’s run after hitting a triple. Hanna Wheeler pitched 4 2/3 innings giving up 5 runs on 4 hits and 3 walks while also striking out 9 batters.
In the final game of the day, the team faced another strong pitcher from Austin Hyde Park losing 2-0 in 4 innings. Gabbi Heltness pitched well giving up 2 runs on 3 hits and 4 walks while striking out 6 batters. The team had 4 hits, a stolen base and 2 walks but struck a season high 11 times. The team just struggled to string together enough positive at bats.
It was a good day overall with strong competition. We are proud of the girls for competing until the end. We love how these girls play the game! They play hard, encourage each other, and do whatever we ask of them! They also did a great job helping the tournament to run smoothly.
